Ulu Watu, Bali | October 2015
My friend, with whom I’m traveling, and I are experiencing quite some contrasts in Bali. From Marriot’s luxury to a surfer’s homestay in Ulu Watu. It’s for sure the most primitive place I ever stayed at. Imagine. Everything built of wooden planks and bamboo walls, be awakened by wild monkeys, a cold public outdoor shower and no wifi-connection (but isn’t that the new luxury anyway?!). The family we stayed at could only speak a few words English. They reminded me of the Pocahontas movie when they were creating stuff from sugar cane and unknown sounds came out of there mouths.
It felt a little strange to us the first night, but were fully adapted the second night. We actually started loving this place. The primitive aspects were exactly the things we enjoyed. However, I enjoy being back in a more luxe place now as well. I absolutely loved every place we went in Bali. I guess I even loved every place I ever went in the entire world. It makes me wonder.. when will I ever meet a place I don’t love?!
