I was just a young teenager when my mom introduced me to the UGG boots. I remember I was instantly in love with the idea: a simple, suede boot, filled up with sheep hair on the inside, coming all the way from Australia. I was astonished by an advertorial I saw in a magazine. Trendy Australian girls wearing the boots on the beach. Such an unpredictable combination; wintery boots on the beach. But it got me. I was in love. I understood the feeling behind the boots and brand.
Short after that, my mom and I went to the first (and at that time only) shop in Amsterdam where they were selling UGG Australia. Both of us went home with a pair of boots and we were breaking new ground. I remember my dad and brothers hated them. Hated! And I actually think most people gave the same reaction. But my mom and I didn’t care: we simply loved them. And luckily my dad was able to say one positive thing about them: they would keep us warm during the winter months.
A decennium later, I got my second pair of UGG boots. The classic II mini in black. It’s an updated version of the old classic boot, but with new features and developments, such as water resistance and an improved sole with more grip and flexibility.
